Heather, you're amazing. The fact that you're reading a "prayer" for Thanksgiving to your family from the author of an incredible hymn tells me your kids and grandkids are going to change the world. That's prescient prophecy. GOD always uses parents like you to raise a new generation of leaders.
Thank you for this article! And the link to Maltbie’s writings. I scrolled through to the Thanksgiving Prayer on page 158. At first I thought I may read it aloud to the family this afternoon, but I had to read it aloud to my husband twice to catch the meaning. So it was our Thanksgiving morning prayer instead.
“May our faith get into our hands and feet, into our tongues and tempers so that the world (our family and friends, believers and not) may see how warm is our solicitude (earnest care and concern) for thy good name.”
Tomorrow a peaceful walk in the woods to process the food, chatter and crowd of today!
Sue, you continue to inspire me. You and Wayne are such an encouragement. Your knowledge of the Scriptures rival any PhD I've ever known. Happy Thanksgiving! And, I LOVE Carrie coming to Istoria Ministries Bible Study. I hope she enjoys it!
"His great success as a preacher was due to his striking and Christ-like personality. He was always interesting and helpful because he was always interested in the subject he presented and incarnated in his life deeds./. His was the "maximum life for the King."
Some would see the life of Maltbie Babcock and make a claim that this God of "love" was cruel and that such a man should not have perished the way he did. It is clear in his writings and in his life's work that he knew that while this is his Fathers world he also knew it was a fallen one. He would not want you to judge God by his death and how it happened as he believed and acted on the premise that God is good and just and that even if his life was taken it would be well with his soul.
This IS my Fathers world, and all of it speaks to its Creator, His majesty, Perfection and power. It is we who have made the world a place where the specter of such a death as Maltbie Babcock's is on our hands and by our choice to rebel against God. Babcock were he a trained Violinist and on the Titanic would have been playing "nearer My God To Thee," "On The Resurrection Morning" and the others on the list because he knew the Providence of God meant an eternity with Him.
Now that's really cool, Heather! Thank you!!

I want to be like that when I grow up.
Drop the mic. Thanks, Rick.
