Self-Satisfaction vs. Self-Promotion
Loving life without the need to persuade others of your relevance.
Every year for the past decade, Rachelle and I have cataloged annual events by printing a book based on a social media application called My Social Book.
A year of our lives is cataloged from photos we’ve taken and posted on Facebook.
Funny Story: Our pest control contractor told me he sat down and reviewed our ten years of photos and stories: “Where do you get these books?” he asked.
Laughing, I told him he might do the same thing for his family using My Social Book.
God’s Servant Needs No Self-Promotion
In our Istoria women’s Bible study from Isaiah this morning, we studied an exciting verse that describes the Servant of YHWH.
This means that the Servant of God isn’t worried about self-promoting.
Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, fed the hungry, and provided miraculous provisions for messy people.
But there was no need for Jesus to be promoted in the eyes or ears of others.
Listen to the Scripture:
15 A large crowd followed Jesus, and He healed all who were ill.16 Jesus warned them not to tell others about Him.17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
18 “Here is my servant whom I have chosen,
the one I love, in whom I delight;(S)
I will put my Spirit on him,(T)
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
19 He will not quarrel or cry out;
no one will hear His voice in the streets.'“
Jesus warned those He healed “not to tell others about Him?”
Huh? Shouldn’t everyone tell others about Jesus? Of course!
The meaning of Jesus warning those He healed NOT to tell others about Him is clear:
Jesus needs no promotion in doing His Kingdom work.
He just does the work.
All of us who are servants of the Most High are called to live for the glory of God and the good of others without worrying about self-promotion.
