The term "gaslighting" was coined from the 1938 British play Gas Light, in which a husband manipulates a wife into thinking she is crazy by slyly changing the intensity of the gas lights in their home when she is alone.
In our day, the verb “gaslighting” means
To manipulate (someone) using psychological methods into questioning their own sanity or powers of reasoning.

This morning, Friday, July 5, 2024, at 7:30 a.m. Central Time, the Department of Labor Statistics issued its newest labor report.
The BLS reported that the United States added 206K jobs in June, above the 190K expected.
That’s good. That means our economy is growing!
Not so fast. In that same BLS report, the government crossed a threshold never reached in the United States history reporting of the labor market.
The government has gaslighted the American people for the past year.
The government (BLS) revised its May jobs report from 272K to 218K
The government (BLS) revised its April jobs report from 165K to 108K.
With these revisions, employment in April and May combined is 111,000 lower than the government previously reported to the American people.
Downward revisions of the BLS jobs report occur a month later when nobody is paying attention.
The government is gaslighting you by “fiddling with the numbers.”
They also don’t tell you that “the growth” in jobs is all in part-time jobs. Full-time jobs have DECLINED every month.
Next month, when the BLS releases “the revised” June jobs data, it will change the 206K to a significantly lower number.
The American economy is in bad shape - stagnant growth, inflationary prices, and lost jobs are the definition of a recession - but the government is gaslighting you.
In other words, we are already in a recession, which might even become a historic depression, but you are being gaslighted by government officials.
Why?
If what you’re seeing with your own eyes and hearing with your ears are contrary to what the government is telling you, then you must recognize that the gaslighting is occurring because those “in charge” want something and can’t get it without lying to you.
The American economy is in a recession.
The stock market will crash at some point.
The economic hardships we are about to face will be extraordinary.
As long as the government gaslights and is not called out for it, the American people will carry on as if all is normal but wake up one day and ask, “How did we get here?”
People like me are trying to warn you.
Spend some time on the Bureau of Labor Statistics website if you think they are hiding anything. It may not be reported accurately by media and a lot of it is statistical analysis but it is not hidden. Was the same way during Trump as it with Biden. Everyone wants a simple answer - the reality is it's not easy.
Or blaming the other side for the very things they are doing.
