At the end of 1939’s Gone with the Wind, actor Clark Gable delivered America’s first curse allowed to be broadcast during a major Hollywood motion picture.

The first curse word broadcast in the United States as part of a Hollywood major motion picture film was in 1939. It was the word “damn” in the last scene of the classic movie Gone with the Wind.

The actor Clark Gable delivered the line:

“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.”

My, how times have changed.

I must thank my parents. When we were children and heard curse words on television, we were trained to say “BEEP.”

Rachelle and I trained our four kids to do the same.

I have a funny but true story about our children saying “Beep” when they hear a curse word. When the National Lampoon movie Vegas Vacation was released, a scene showed a family touring Hoover Dam on their way to Las Vegas (see clip below).
