Jesse T. Peck (1811-1883), was a Methodist Episcopal pastor, the first chairman of the board of Syracuse University, and an intellectual, though never formally educated.
When his friends began to despair over the corruption in government, universities and even churches, Jesse T. Peck made what I believe to be an insightful quote on the power of genuine revival.
Jesse Peck said:
“Personal regeneration must extend until political corruption shall become improbable, unpopular and even impossible."
Regeneration is the internal work of God's Spirit to bring spiritual life again to the heart and mind of a human being. This new life is evidenced by “the fruit of the Spirit” - Galatians 5:22-23.

Without this powerful and personal work of the Spirit, no matter the personal pledges or promises made, the powerful positions held, whether it be people in politics or the pulpit, corruption invariably and inevetiably comes.
