Art Briles, Jeff Lebby, and Woke OU
This is the second SMU game where Art Briles lost his family by the actions of others.
OU beat SMU by a score of 28-11 Saturday night, September 9, 2023, at Owen Field in Norman, Oklahoma.
The offensive coordinator for Oklahoma, Jeff Lebby, invited his father-in-law onto the field AFTER the game to be with him, his wife (Staley Lebby), and their two children.
Let me repeat:
Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator, Jeff Lebby, invited his wife’s father and the grandfather of his two children onto the OU football field AFTER the game.
Jeff’s father-in-law is Art Briles.
Seven years ago, Baylor University fired Art Briles as its head coach for not reporting the crimes of his star football players.
After hearing about trouble at a party his players attended, he questioned the players himself. They said all that happened “was consensual.”
Coach Art Briles should have reported to law enforcement what he’d heard, no matter what his star football players alleged.
He didn’t. There is no excuse.
Baylor justly terminated Coach Art Briles.
Coach Briles served no time because the courts ruled that Coach Briles committed no crime.
A couple of years after justly being terminated by Baylor for his moral failure, Coach Art Briles returned to coaching with his reputation tarnished.
He is now the head coach of an Italian professional football team.
Art Briles Family
Ironically, it was in 1976 at an SMU football game in Dallas, Texas, that Art Briles, then a Houston Cougar football player, looked up into the stands to catch a glimpse of his mom, dad, and aunt, who were traveling to Dallas to watch the game at the Cotton Bowl.
His family wasn’t there.
They didn’t show up for the first half, the second half, and at the end of the game.
All three had been killed in a traffic accident enroute to the game.
Family is essential to Art Briles.
Fifty years after losing his mom, dad, and beloved aunt, Oklahoma administrators are taking Art Briles’ daughter, grandchildren, and son-in-law from him.
Why?
Because the administrators of Oklahoma University, including OU’s Athletic Director Joe Castiglione, President Joseph Harroz, Jr., and OU’s faculty are drowning in wokeness.
Castiglione, most assuredly pressured by President Harroz, issued the following statement to the press last night about Art Briles being on the OU sideline AFTER the game:
“I was just as disappointed as many of our fans when I learned of the postgame situation tonight. It shouldn’t have happened, and it was my expectation it never would, based on boundaries we previously set. I’ve addressed it with the appropriate staff.”
The Wokeness of OU Administration
The Oklahoma State Legislature is investigating the Oklahoma University administration’s decision to use student fees to pay for a queer show performance at freshman orientation in August of 2023.
”An open records request from the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs showed that the drag show’s headliner, Yvie Oddly, was paid $18,000 for the event and that other costs associated with the performance were paid for by student fees and "no state appropriations or student tuition were used to support this event."
"So my question is, why are we spending $18,000 of the OU money, educational money, they could go to scholarships, could go to research, cancer research, these kinds of things that a school should be doing, other research for the betterment of all people, instead OU president decides he wants to fund $18,000 for a person," Humphrey told Fox 25 Oklahoma, adding that "the school seems to have lost their moral compass and they're pushing a woke and perverted agenda."
So, there you have it.
The liberal, woke administrators of Oklahoma don’t want Art Briles, a father, grandfather, father-in-law, and a man who lost his own family as a college student, to be anywhere near his family on the University of Oklahoma Campus.
But Yvie Oddly, who advocates for the destruction of traditional family values, is paid $18,000 in university fees to come to speak and perform to incoming freshmen.
Oklahoma University is about to drown itself in wokeness.
It is, indeed, an Oddly time.
CONCLUSION
Oklahomans see through posturing.
We are uninterested in our state university posturing to woke madness.
I’ll remember this SMU vs. OU game for many reasons.
The number one reason is I will never stand by and let liberals destroy a family because they are catering to absurd wokeness.
Art Briles, you can be anywhere in Oklahoma with your family.
That’s love. That’s morality. That’s Oklahoma values.
Goooood grief! Seriously? You’d think Art Briles threw new born babies off the Golden Gate Bridge…wow!
Preeeeeeety sure these same type things have occurred at other schools over the years…not justifying anything that was done by players or not handled properly by staff or administrators. But I’d bet a cheese burger that there may have been a few infractions at OU during some of their storied coaches, not the least of which might have been the great theologian Barry Switzer.
If you want a fascinating read look up “Scapegoat”. It’s that whole event written by a Baylor alum who set out to write the last great crushing book on the mayhem that happened under Coach Briles…
He did a deep dive with folks from ESPN, the Longhorn Network, local police & sheriff and those who would talk off the record from UT.
It’s very interesting when you read the who, what, when, where and why Texas would want to destroy Baylor football at that time. Again, the author of this book set out to put the final nail in the coffin of Coach Briles & Baylor Athletics…
And while we’re at it, that was pass interference in the end zone Saturday.
Now, I’ll take my online beating for posting this rant.
