It was at Orlando, Florida, during the 1994 Southern Baptist Convention, that the label ‘liberal’ was used by those who oppose my principles as a description of me (Wade Burleson).
My family and friends laugh at the progressive moniker, knowing that I believe every word of the sacred Scriptures and have spent a lifetime studying them.
The ‘liberal’ label came to me because I opposed the tyranny of leadership in the SBC.
I am always against tyranny.
Be it from the right (conservative) or the left (progressive), tyranny is “the cruel and oppressive power used to rule over others.”
My mother will tell you I would always watch out for the underdog, even as a child.
I believe in the value of every human being.
Called the Imago Dei (The Image of God), this image of the Creator is stamped into every human being.
Valuing and protecting every homo sapien from tyranny is my motivation to uproot selfish and unjust attempts to rule over others.
