5 Keys that Unlock Your Bible
Reading the Bible isn't easy for some, but these 5 keys will help.
“Blessed art thou, O LORD: Teach me thy statutes.” - Psalm 119:12.
One reason people are afraid of the Bible is because they don’t understand it.
The most well-intentioned people start reading the Bible, but by the time they get to the third book, Leviticus, they tend to “zone out.”
Here are five keys to help you comprehend the most remarkable book ever written and to help you keep reading it.
1. See Jesus on Every Page.
At first, it may seem odd to “see Jesus” in the Old Testament. But we have the example of Jesus Himself, who taught the two disciples as they walked to the village of Emmaus.
“And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, Jesus explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning Himself” - Luke 24:27.
“Moses and all the prophets” is the 1st-century Jewish name for the Hebrew Scriptures, which we Christians call the Old Testament.
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible gives us pictures of Jesus, who He is, and what He does for His people.
As an example of seeing Jesus on every page, listen to this recitation of every book of the Bible and where you can find Jesus in each book.
2. See God As Sovereign Over All Nations.
One of the major mistakes people make about the Bible is believing it is only a Jewish religious book.
The Bible reveals that God is Sovereign and King over All Nations, not just the nation of Israel.
Listen as the Creator speaks to Israel about His involvement in nations, including Israel’s national enemies:
“ The Lord says, “People of Israel, I think as much of the people of Ethiopia as I do of you. I brought the Philistines from Crete and the Syrians from Kir, just as I brought you from Egypt.” - Amos 9:7.
For this reason, the 10 Commandments are for every nation.
These commands, called Natural Law by the forefathers of the United States, bind every human being to God and demand every government that rises from among men to preserve citizens’ God-given rights of life, liberty, and property.
God brings down the nation that turns its back on Him and His commands. He is the Sovereign King of every country.
The Bible conveys this message of God’s sovereignty over the nations. From Assyria to Babylon (modern Iraq), Persia to Greece, and Rome to Egypt, humble nations acknowledge God, preserve justice, protect people, and then are exalted by God.
Unjust nations that ignore Nature’s God are Nature’s Laws are destroyed.
See Israel as a Chosen Nation with a Mission
Though God is Sovereign over every nation, He chose Israel and his 12 sons (the 12 tribes of Israel) to be a nation with a particular purpose.
“The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the nations of the earth to be His people, His treasured possession” - Deuteronomy 7:6.
“The LORD did not choose you because you were great in number or more powerful than all the nations, for you were fewer in number. - Deuteronomy 7:7
“I am the LORD; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the peoples, A LIGHT TO THE NATIONS” - Isaiah 42:8.
“(I) raise up the tribes of Jacob, and restore the offspring of Israel… for A LIGHT FOR THE NATIONS, that My salvation may be unto the end of the earth.” - Isaiah 49:6
Sadly, when you read the history of the nation of Israel, they failed in their mission to be a LIGHT TO THE NATIONS.
